Meccan, 3 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
By the time (the ages),
indeed the human being is in loss
except those who believe and do good and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to perseverance (and patience).
Meccan, 9 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Woe to every slanderer and fault-finder.
The one who piles up wealth and keeps count of it,
thinking that his wealth (and possession) makes him immortal.
No way, he shall be thrown into the crushing fire.
And how would you know what the crushing fire is?
(It is the) blazing fire of God
which rises over (and overtakes) the hearts,
indeed it closes over them (all over them)
in extending columns.
Meccan, 5 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Have you not considered what your Lord did to companions of the elephant?
Did He not make their plot go wrong,
and sent flocks of birds on them,
throwing stones of baked clay at them,
then He made them like chewed up straw?
Meccan, 4 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
For protection (and keeping together) of the Quraish,
their protection for the winter and the summer journey,
so they should serve the Lord of this house,
the One Who fed them in hunger and made them safe from fear.
Meccan, 7 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Did you see the one who denies the religion (or the Judgment Day)?
That is the one who pushes the orphan away,
and does not encourage feeding the poor.
So woe to those who perform mandatory prayer (and continue their wrongful deeds),
those who are unmindful of (the purpose of) their mandatory prayer,
those who pretend (and make a show of what they do)
and withhold the small kindnesses.
Meccan, 3 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Indeed We gave you plenty.
So perform mandatory prayer and sacrifice for your Lord.
Indeed your hater, he is cut off (and is childless).
Meccan, 6 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Say: You the disbelievers,
I do not serve what you serve,
and you are not servants of what I serve,
and I am not a servant of what you serve,
and you are not servants of what I serve,
your way of life (religion) for you and my way of life (religion) for me.
Medinan, 3 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
When God's help and the victory comes,
and you see people entering into God's way of life (religion) in groups (of large number),
glorify your Lord with His praise and ask His forgiveness. Indeed He is acceptor of repentance.
Meccan, 5 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
May Abu Lahab's both hands perish (or may Abu Lahab's power perish), and may he perish.
His wealth and what he has earned will be of no use to him.
He is going to enter (and burn in) a flaming fire,
and (so is) his wife, carrier of the firewood,
around her neck will be a rope of palm fiber.
Meccan, 4 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Say: He is the One God,
God is the eternal (and is needed and is without any need),
He did not father (anyone), and He was not born,
and there is none equal (or comparable) to Him.
Meccan, 5 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Say: I seek protection of the Lord of the daybreak
from the harm of whatever He has created
and from the harm of darkness when it comes
and from the harm of the blowers into the knots (who practice witchcraft)
and from the harm of the envious when he envies.
Medinan, 6 verses
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Say: I seek protection of the Lord of the people,
King of the people,
god of the people,
from the harm of the withdrawing tempter (who withdraws at the mention of God),
the one who tempts in people's chest/minds,
(whether) from Jinn or people.
